SAMSUNG LCD's SUCK
If you are considering to purchase an LCD TV, make the choice of buying a Samsung at your own peril.
This is a warning.
I have had the agony of owning two 40" LCDs since July 2006 (One te first TV, and teh other was a brand new replacement).
Both had problems - and I have colleagues who faced the same issues.
Even the retailer (Harvey Norman) agrees that Samsung's defects are more in number than any other brand (15 out of 1000).
If you still buy a Samsung because the price seems great to you - go ahead.
But don't feel like an idiot when it does 'Bond' on you.
As for their service - it sucked.

Were the defects in the panel? or with other parts of the TV?
Afaik, Samsung is the worlds largest supplier of LCD panels. So even if you buy another brand.. the LCD panel is most likely from Samsung.

I had 2 TVs in 3 months.
The first TV lasted 3 minutes before I heard nasty sounds coming out of it - the panel seemed fine to me.
The 2nd TV (one-for-one replavement) lasted 3 months before the circuit board blasted when I switched the TV 'on'. So far, no problems with the panel.
The service people almost gussed what happened and replaced this circut board (like the brain of the TV). The next day, I have my first problem with the panel itself. The screen started growing blank in 'clouds'... gradually - at first I thought it was part of the special effects in 'Die another day' that was on Star Movies - but then, I realized it was my TV's day to die.
I turned it off. When I switched on the TV after a day - the screen was blank, but I had the audio playing.
So, I went in for a Philips - it has a propreitary technology when it comes to LCD panels (partnership with LG, I think). There is nothing in my new TV that has anything to do with Samsung - thats what I was told to believe!!
The picture quality is fantastic. Had I not been a sucker for Samsung's stylish marketing machine, I would have considered a Philips earlier. The Pixel Plus tech allows for a much richer and sharper image on TV. The only point I give Samsung is that its remote was easier to use - albiet slightly bulky and 80's-ish.
