Pitter Patter Potter
I have been watching so many movies - I've lost track of what I watched... Big Fish, The Good German, Thank you for Smoking... and Paris, Je Taime. The last one (montage, collage whatever of 20 stories woven in and around Paris) is not my kind of movie. I heard so many good things from people about it - but it was a huge disappointment. I like to think while watching a movie - but I hate to feel stupid. This movie made me think - geez, am I missing something here? Is it really me? Towards the end, it was 'No way, I love The Band, I love Bruce Springsteen, I love George Harrison. I'm cool. This movie sucks.'
Thankfully, I stayed till the end - the soundtrack during the closing credits is probabaly the best I heard - after that in 25th Hour.
I'm going tonight for Potter with the Renu (who is looking forward to her Subway more than the movie I think) and Sukesss.
Now, how am I gonna talk about a movie I have not watched yet? Simple.
'Phoenix' is the last book of the series I read (that too because I had nothing better to do in Coonoor while taking care of my mother who was ill). I didn't even bother to read Potter 6 (Half Blood Prince) because Book 5 put me off the series - for good. I love movies - and thats partly why I'm going for the movie tonight. Back to Book 5 - probably the worst book of the whole series - at 874 pages - it was long and winding. Worse, it felt like 1500 pages of trash - and tantrums.
I read somewhere that the film-makers have done a fantastic job of fitting the whole script in 132 minutes. And this is why I wanna watch the movie.
Also, I like the Subway before too!!

Breaking my own vow of not leaving comments....how can u not like Harry Potter? I agree the 5th and 6th book are not as good as the first 3 [one theory being realising her popularity she started writing for adults] but don't you want to finish the story? and movies are never as good as the book - case in point - Harry Potter 3 - best book - worst movie - just scenes from the book pasted together!! still enough ranting...can't wait for movie and book - got prebooked copy as bday present- yay!!

Movies are usually never as good as the book. THE PAINTED VEIL - for example.
Something like Harry Potter doesn't really fall under great writing. There is a lot that can be ignored in a book like Potter while making a movie - and still reach out to an audience and not confuse them.
If Rowling was writing for adults - she would not have gone on and on and on about Harry and his surging hormones... really, I thought she was writing for younger kids as series progressed. She knew she had teh fans by their balls or whatever unmentionables, and so went for teh jugular - writing a giant-sized book so everybody was happy (publishers especially).
I'm perfectly fine not knowing how the ending is going to be. For me, I consider the time I spent reading the 5 books as time lost - wasted. I should have gone running. Or played the guitar.
But who am I when the world is pre-booked for Book 7 - debating like fucking morons whether Harry is gonna die or not. With the theme park and 2 more movies and Playstation games coming up - thats the last thing she will do... kill that schizo kid.
Imagine playing a game on your PS3 knowing that your character HAS to die. Suicidal!!
