Le Général, au revoir et... Goodluck
I never actually met the General. I was never even introduced to him.
I always saw him though during the first trimester during class. And sometimes at the canteen. With his shirt buttoned up all the way, and serious outlook, and the frisbee story... I took my time and space to get to know him as well.
The end of T1 sparked a change in all of us. And this was most pronounced in the General. But I still took my time to know him. In the first 2 terms, I had dinner with him just once. And the only time I pulled a joke on him during our Grad Hall lounge sessions was the sleeveless blouse/ blouse-less sleeve episode.
My mistake...
Midway through the third term (on the eve of my birthday), I got into an argument with him. He was kind enough to turn up for my party, and we made up that evening over rum and dance.
We have since made up for lost time and laughed our gutts out... and its with mixed feelings that I watch him leave. I am glad that he is heading off to Seattle, but will miss this true linguistic genius. I am yet to meet someone who has mastered the Singapore accent and limited vocabulary the way he has.
So, my goodbye note...
You leave now can? I oredi wish you goodluck oredi. You come back to Singapore can? Can what? Woh Lau!! Oredi can?
See you somewhere up the road ...
and Goodluck buddy!!
